A Lot Goin On!                                                                                             7/21/10
Lots, and lots going on.... it turns out our Butter Motley Clutch also had Snow Motleys!  So our adults are also het anery!!  We also hit a 1 in 16 chance snake to.... the Butter Snow Motley or Xanthic Snow Motley!  Super Exciting!  We are keeping her to breed into our Butter Stripe!  FUN!  We are bulking colubrids up for the cooling season in only a couple months.... WOW, doesn't seem like it's been that long????  Also Bulking up the last few female BPs for breeding this fall/winter as well.... again... I can't believe it's that time again!!  LOL.  Lots of cool projects for us in 2011!!!  We will be producing more babies in the 2011 season than ever before... with an estimated 250 babies!!!  WOW!  Lots of mouths to feed!  But that's not for a while... to focus on the present now... this Friday we will be adding a male NERD line Lemon Pastel to our collection of BPs!!  We will also be getting some sub-adult Spotted Pythons this weekend!  Some awsome new additions to the mix here!  I love my Aussie Pythons!  :)  We will also be vending in NH at the All New England Reptile Expo on 10/2/10.  Info can be found at www.reptileexpo.com and we may also be vending at the Massachusetts Reptile Expo in Weymouth, MA... hope I spelled that right!  LOL.  More info can be found at www.neherp.com or the New England Herpetological Society!  That expo is on 10/11/10!  We will be vending at both expos for sure in the spring as well!  Very exciting stuff going on here!!  Today I also posted a couple more youtube vids that were requested of me to make... head to www.youtube.com/janddreptiles and check those out as well!  Also, tomorrow I'll be on 22News on the show MassAppeal with some of the snakes!  We will be talking about J and D Reptiles, Owning Reptiles, and coving the main theme/topic "So your child wants a reptile?!"  Should be fun!!  Well, as you can see, I am super busy here, so I must get back to work, but I wanted to keep you all informed about the awesomeness going on here at J and D!  Thanks for all the continued Support!

Been A While...                                                                                            7/13/10
Well, since that BP clutch, out 95% of our Colubrids have hatched!!!  We have tons and tons of corn snakes, some cal kings.... we are waiting on two more clutches to be laid, then thats it!  We probably have around 40+ corns out so far!  It's great!  I'm happy to say our Butters 66% het Motley, proved out for me!  ALL the babies are Butter Motleys!  I couldn't be happier!  We went to the NY Reptile Expo on 7/11/10, we added some awsome BPs from BHB to the collection!  Mojave, Pinstripe, het pieds, etc!  Great stuff!  I gotta actually be getting off.... gotta start putting some 9 day old corns in their own individual containers!  Until they shed, we keep them together, then we separate them!  Corns will start being available in the next 2-3 weeks!  :)

It's Started!!  :)                                                                                             6/27/10
Today started off great!  We got a nice clutch of Ball Python eggs at 7:30 AM!  Clutch of 6 perfectly healthy eggs.  Can't wait for these little ones.  But, today, baby corn snakes started to hatch!  2 are completely out of the egg, and we are waiting for the other 11!  I can't wait for these guys to be out!  They are all albinos... but different lines of albinos.  So the babies will be different intensities of albino!  Very cool stuff.  Babies, babies, Babies!!!!!  Now the craziness begins!  :)

Fun is about to begin!!                                                                               6/13/10
Well, we have baby BPs out, and are starting to eat.  The IJ I have been posting in my vids will soon be for sale... well only that one pair I mentioned... not both pairs...LOL.  It is about to be the time of real fun!  Hatching out colubrids!  July is the month for all the colubrid eggs to hacth!  This means about 50 babies are due to hatch in one month, which is nothing compared to a place like BHB, but is surely a lot for a smaller breeder like me!  We are also due to have another clucth.  My het albino female is going to lay again.  Also the female hondo in the vids I posted that was gravid, then not gravid, is gravid....LOL.  The same thing happened last year.  She looks gravid, then looks normal, then is gravid...LOL.  So she is due to lay eggs soon.  And one more BP is due to lay eggs.  Lots to do, lots to take care of, and lots to sell!  I love this time of year!  For all those people who go to the NH reptile expo, I do plan on vending there, for the first time.  I plan on having lots and lots of corns, so corn people, come by and buy some corns!  LOL!

Man, it's been about a month!?                                                             5/30/10
Man, I cannot believe it has been about a month since my last blog entry.  Well, a quick update.... most of our eggs are laid.  I am waiting on the last corn clutch due any day, and a BP due to drop in about 4.5 weeks.  We have 52 eggs in incubation so far.  With the other clutches will make it about 70 eggs or so, most from the Corn snake obviously.  Lots, and lots of eggs.  Our first clutch of BPs is due to hatch in just a few days!  I'll have pics on facebook, and youtube vids of babies as soon as they are out!  For more up-to-date info on J and D Reptiles news, please add us on Facebook.  Both my personal page, and the J and D Reptiles Page!  Pics are uploaded often!  Also, the weather is much nicer now, so we are able to do shows at schools, events, etc, etc.  If you know of someone who would enjoy this, send them this way!  :)  Have a great Memorial Day!

Been a While.                                                                                                  5/3/10
It has been a while since I have posted a blog.  But better late than never!  Things have been pretty crazy here.  My big female BP hasn't dropped yet, but I am pretty sure it's because she is soo big, sometimes larger girls have longer to lay.  So I am still waiting there.  HOWEVER!  I have some colubrid clutches a week earlier than expected!   My Opal Corn Just laid her clutch today!  13 eggs and 1 slug.  She wasn't the biggest girl, so this was a big clutch.  I bred her to my Albino 66% het Motley.  So Everything we get will be Albino 100% het Lavender 33% het motley.  It'll be a good clutch!  Also one of the Pueblans that I have on breeder loan laid a clutch of 5 eggs and 1 slug.  Very nice clutch from her.  She laid on 4/30.  In the next week we should have another Corn clutch from my Het Albino I bred to the same sire I bred with my Opal.  Very good season!  I am very excited!  Check out my facebook for pics of the opal with her clutch!

Back Home!                                                                                                   4/25/10
Well, I am back home from performing with the Mass. Lions All-State Band.  It was a crazy week.  Got back yesterday evening, ate supper, then went to bed!  Today, I am cleaning snakes... and contrary to my usual routine I am feeding snakes Monday.  They need food... and today went to cleaning them all... so, tomorrow it is!   Today is going good though!  We just got in some Irian Jaya Carpet Pythons!  My friend Shakeem came by and let me get the pic of the litter from a 2 day old clutch of IJs.  I don't mind starting them, carpets aren't usually picky eaters.  But the best part of them is thier line.  They are a cross of Anthony Capp. line and Jay McLear Line IJs!  Very powerful normal lines... they look great!  The female I picked is the best of the clutch hands down!  I'll try to get pic here soon, if they aren't on here in the next day or so go to my facebook page and check for my recent photo uploads... I should have a couple there.  It's easier for me to upload pics from my phone right to FB than to take the pic with my camera, e-mail it tomyself, then save it on my desktop, then save it to the websites storage, then upload it to the site.  LOL.  Anyway... stay tuned in for more updates in the near future!  :)

Crazy Week!                                                                                                  4/21/10
Well this week, was supposed to be my Spring Break, but as usual my hopeful free time has been used up by something... not happy about it, but... eh... whatever.  I am rehearsing, and playing with a Band in Marlboro, MA until Saturday.  We have a performance Friday, and then another one on Saturday.  I'll be back in the late evening.  Then, Saturady, I'll have to clean everything!  And Sunday, feed all the snakes!  Then Monday is back to school.  What a great "vacation"  HAHA.  Oh well.  Next week we should have our chameleons in!  I'll post updates and pics as soon as we get them!  If you noticed the change to the Collection list for BPs, we now have a Woma Ball Python.  I have posted pics of her on facebook.  You can check her out, by going to the links page, click on the facebook link and go into my mobile uploads!  She is a gorgeous snake!  :)

Long Day Yesterday!                                                                                   4/19/10
Yesterday was the New York Metro Reptile Expo.  I had a great time!  I love the NY show because I meet most of my fellow youtubers and J and D Followers there!  :)  I love the support, and being able to inspire so many people to own herps.  At the show, I also got to catch up with Brian Barczyk from BHB Enterprises.  He also did a segment with me for my Local Access TV show!  :)  He is an awsome guy!  Anyway, I picked up all my Chameleon Suplies, and should be getting the chameleons next week!  :)  At the end of the show I also got an 09 Woma Ball Python from Brian.  It's a little female.  I plan on breeding her with my Bumble Bee Male.  Should be an interesting pairing in a couple years! :)

Oh Happy Day!!                                                                                                                          4/13/10
Well, I finally got it!  I got a Permit from the Mass Division of Fisheries and Wildlife to own Panther Chameleons.  In the State of MA, there are certain animals you cannot own without a permit issued by Mass Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.  Chameleons are one of those species of animals.  We will soon own 2 beautiful Blue Bar Ambilobe Panther Chameleons.  They will both be males.  I have no plan on breeding these.  Incubation time is close to a year, and don't want to wait that long, plus baby chameleons aren't easy to care for.  LOL!!   We can use them for educational shows, and they are a pleasure to keep!  :)

I'll post pics when we get them!

Colubrid breeding is going great!  This is a mini-update.  For more consistant updates follow me on FaceBook, and Twitter.  But breeding is going great!  I have witnessed several breedings from kings, corns and milks!  :)  I am very excited about the offspring to come!  We are also breeding Leopard Geckos as of a few days ago.  SO Leos will be available around the same times as snakes!  Stay tuned here, on facebook, twitter and MySpace for updates more often!  :)

Colubrid Breeding Season has Begun!                                                                3/28/10
Well it is finally here!  I love colubrid breeding season.  I don't like the genetics, since they are all simple recessive morphs, and I really hate working with hets! HAHA!  But I have just introduced a pair of Pueblan Milk Snakes a few hours ago, and already caught them breeding!  :)  I am super excited!  I love breeding Lampropeltis!  :)  I love seeing the tri-colored heads pop out of the eggs!  :)  Anyway... next up is Corn Snakes and Honduran Milk Snakes tomorrow!  Then next week Cali-kings.  Cali-Kings are starting later because the female is in shed, and she needs to eat before breeding so she doesn't have the urge to eat the male.  LOL.  Anyway, I'll post more updates as the season continues.  If you want to see the pairings of Pueblans go to Youtube and check out the vid I have posted of them!  :)

Eggs SOON!!!!                                                                                              3/27/10
Our first clutch of eggs will be here in 14 days now!  My smaller female Ball Python is Due to drop her clutch of eggs on April 10th!   I am very excited!   She was bred to a Pastel male.  Nothing too special, but I love pastels!  I am expecting a 3-4 egg clutch from this girl.  She isn't the largest female, but still a nice looking normal!  The next clutch will be from my GIANT female.  She is in her Pre-Lay shed now.  So she will lay sometime in Early May.  She was also bred to a Pastel, but also to a Co-Dom Black Back.  SO we can get Pastels, Black Backs, and Normals.  Nothing to spectacular for BPs this year, next year, we will have much more like Cinnies, Lemon Pastels, Lemon Pewters, Pieds, het Pieds, Caramels, het Caramels.  Although... If I get Caramels and Pieds, I may keep them for myself!  HAHA!  Besides the BPs, Colubrid Breeding Starts for me in a few days!  Starting with Corn Snakes.  I am expecting Butter Motleys, Butter's het Motley, Albinos, het Ablinos, and Albinos het Lavender or het Opal, however you want to call them.  All the Albino and het Albino offspring will also be possible het Motleys!  I have a lot of the Motley gene in my Corns!  Again Next year will be a bit more interesting.  Going to add some Caramels het Butter Motley into the offspring list, as well as others.  Then there is the California Kings... just Lavender Albinos from them... although, they will be het Lavender Snow!  :)  Also have some Pueblan Milks expected to.  Normals and Apricots.  Finally, got some Honduran Milk Snakes.  Just Tangerines again this season.  The fun stuff is next year!  LOL.  Ghosts, Hypos, Anerys, Tangerines, Tangerine Albinos, etc.  So a pretty low level year morph wise... but a lot of babies!  hehe!  Stay tuned to the blog here for updates, as well as youtube!  Now there is also a J and D Reptiles Page on Face Book you can become a fan of!  I'll have updates there as well!

Meant to put this up a while ago...                                                        3/14/10
So a while ago I started e-mailing again with a kid I did a Party for a while back.  He sent me this awsome Poem I had to post on here!  Take a Look!  It's Called REPTILES ROCK!  Right there, I already like it!  haha

I mean how can you not love a Poem like that!!!!  :D A big thanks to Jack D. for writing it!

Nothing to sell so far!?!?!                                                                           3/1/10
I have gotten a lot of questions about how I can have soo many herps, and habe one thing posted for sale currently!  Let me make it clear.... The reptiles I have here are for BREEDING PURPOSES!  I am a reptile breeder, not a pet store, I produce my own animals, I don't get them from wholesalers to resell them at a ridiculous price!  I am a very easy going person, but I have gotten a lot of e-mails, Youtube messages, etc about this, so I wanted to address it!  Currently, I am still waiting for Pythons to drop eggs... This season, stupid me forgot to take notes and record all the breeding info for my pythons, SO, I am really playing a waiting game with my pythons for their eggs.  I'm not sure how well the season will play out because of this.  Let it be known that if you decide to breed, keep good notes on the breedings!!  Luckily I have the space to redeem myself with colubrids which are being bulked for breeding later on.  So, with all this being said, later this year I should have much more available.  As always I can always help you with any questions regarding where you can get good herps for a good price!  Thanks for reading my venting...LMAO!  ; )

Quick 11 Days!                                                                                              2/28/10
WOW, the past 11 days have seemed to just fly by!  It's March tomorrow!!  Well it's official, colubrids are out of brumation and are warming up.  They are all looking for food, and have been telling my by adding a few bites to my hands...LOL.  It happens, no big deal.  I am excited to get started on breeding them this year!  Also, I am getting out of Rhacodactylids...With 12 Leos, and 2 Beardies, plus Leo babies, I am going through crickets like nothing.  Since I have delt with Leos for 10 years, and enjoy working with them a bit more than Cresties, I am sticking with them.  So, for thouse of you Rhac. keepers, sorry but I won't have any available anymore.  But as always I can point you in the direction of someone who has them.  Let's see, what am I missing here? Oh, my second TV shoot is today... it'll be on feeding snakes!  Excited about that!  Some may have noticed I have been a bit absent from youtube.... I have been sooo busy, making vids and getting them up hasn't been on my top priority list.  I am hoping to make a vid today to post on there just as an update to things.  ANyway, without the risk of going on forever, that is where we are headed, and as always stay alert for more posts here!  :)

Good Day!                                                                                                      2/17/10
Wow, today went really well!  I did my first TV shoot for Central MA Local Access!  Should be great!  The shoot was basically some quick info on some of the more common, and some uncommon herps.  It was fun!  The next shoot will be on 2/28/10 and will be a shoot on the 3 best beginner herps... Ball Pythons, Corn Snakes, and Leopard geckos.  They are, in my opinion, the best reptiles for youngsters, as well as new people to the hobby.  They are smaller reptiles, that are easy to care for, great fora first breeding project, and come in MANY colors for all price ranges!  Should be really fun to continue.  in the warmer weather we will do Live shows at the station, and do live call ins for those who have questions!  Awsome stuff!  When I get DVD copies of the shows I'll try to post them on youtube for those of you not local to Central MA.

Hopeing for the Best! (Breeding Update)                                                         2/14/10
Ok, so my Python breeding season is at the final stretch here.   It is time to wait for eggs.  UGH!  I hate this part of the job.  I am also getting an early start on my colubrids!  I started cooling early, so I am warming soon!  Which means time to feed an extra 30 snakes..LMAO!  I have some projects for me this year in my colubrids, but I'm expecting a lot, so there will hopefully be plenty.  But, back to Pythons...  So, I have 2 BPs that are due to lay soon... After the pre-lay shed those 30-50 days or so can be killer waiting for the clutch!  I find myself searching in there waiting for those big ol' eggs.  Everyday, I am hopeful, but so far NADA!!  AHHH!  LOL.  Well it is all part of the job, and you can't force the eggs out, so gotta wait!  It'll all be worth it in the end!  I am really excited to see the clutch from my BIG normal female that now weighs like 7 pound.... she usually weighs 5.5, she hasn't eaten at all since her pre-lay shed.  She has recently been moving around the enclosure a lot, which I have found to be an indicator they will be laing very soon!  The only thing that throws me off, she is soooo big, there is very little building visible, but she has gotta have lots of eggs, since she has gained 1.5 pounds, and hasn't eaten in weeks!  Also, got a female that just started breeding about a month ago... she has unreceptive until then, but now she is locked up every day just about!  That is GREAT!  So fingers crossed for plentiful BPs this year!  Unfortunately My Macklott's Python isn't gravid.... she ovulated, but she is back on food, and not showing any more signs of being gravid.  My Coastal Carpet is showing the signs of being gravid, but not building like I'd expected.  Fingers crossed for some good eggs!  I also just put together the first group of cresteds that are ready to breed... gonna get some nice morphs hopefully!  :)

Hate Waiting for Eggs!                                                                          2/12/10
Well, I am still waiting for my python eggs.... the female what was supposed to lay on the 3rd hasn't laid yet, but she has had a slower folicle growth than my others.  She is finally glowing, and growing where where eggs are!  She should lay soon, as well as the other pythons!  Can't wait!  Well things are going good, finally cleaning the reptile room itsself, the walls, floor, etc... looks a lot nicer now!  LOL.  Well stay tuned for new vids soon, and more updates on breeding!

NY Reptile Show!                                                                                     1/24/10
Well today was one of those days where I had to get up at like 4AM to get ready for NY!  We went to pick up some friends, stopped in a DnD for breakfast, and off we went!  It was a long trip, but I always like it!  It was nice to see Brian and Lori again, and their Balls...LMAO.  The gorgeous Pewterpagne BP was there for a nice hefty 12,500.00, gotta love those BHB creations!  Had a great show, also got to see Kati from Kati's Cresteds.  I haven't seen her in a while, so it was nice to catch up and see the incredible geckos she had!!  I did pick up a few new things.  Four new things to be exact.  I will be making vids tomorrow and posting them in the evening, on what I got, so check out www.youtube.com/janddreptiles for the "inside scoop"!  lol.  I will also be putting up those other long awaited herp vids I haven't been able to do!  I am no longer cramming for orchestra rehearsals, or all states, or anything, so I have some time to get the vids done... it will be short lived time, but time never-the-less!  SO check out youtube about this time tomorrow, and there should be some new vids up!  :)

A Good Day!  :)                                                                                            1/3/10
Well today was good.  LOL.  Unfortunately it is my last day of vacation, but it ended well!  I have a new BP vid on youtube now, where I blab on about morphs and stuff.  I had some people come by to look at the racks and new herps, which was nice.  It was a basic and lazy day today.  I also have a Prego BP!  A nice normal female multi-sired to a pastel and a Black Back just did her pre-lay shed!  :)  SO I should get a nice early clutch of BPs!  I am trying to get a Black Back Pastel out of the deal.  Fingers crossed!  All in all a Great day!   In about an hour I'll be listening in to Animal Talk Radio.  Brian has been doing this show for a few weeks now, and it's great!  Every Sunday from 6-8 @ www.animaltalkradio.com if you'd care to listen in!  Hope everyone Enjoyed thier New Year, Take care!

The Room is 98% Done!!                                                                      12/30/09
Well this post will be shpt, cuz I need to catch some sleep.  Today, a 2 year dream finally came into reality.  My reptile room is just about 100% done!  I just need to get heat for the baby racks and a few more tubs!  Also a few more snakes and geckos!  :P   I am very excited to have my room finally coming together!  I am very happy. Check out youtube tomorrow for new vids of the room, and tonite for some new ones I posted a few mins ago!  www.youtube.com/janddreptiles.com. I took a look at the vids I posted in the beginning of this year, to see the change is incredible... I made a lot of progress this year!  2010 marks the fnish line for my reptile room, and I can concentrate so much more energy on my herp care, rather than building more cages!  Anyway, thanks again to all those who suported this decision to post blogs here!  :)

Well here it is..... the first Blog on the site!  :)  Thanks to all those who supported this decision!  :)   Well first off, let me just say, this is my personal Blog, where I post about my day here..... not just about the reptiles, but the day.  Now I won't be posting everyday, but more often then on the company Myspace.  Speaking of which if you haven't gone to it yet... GO!  LOL!  www.myspace.com/janddreptiles
Well let's see, today.... today went well....  was up early.  A buddy of mine came in, who hasn't been in for about a year.... maybe more???  And was like WHOA.... what happened....lol.  He also wanted some last minute tips on rack building, since he is making one soon himself.  So that was cool.  After that, I went to my buddy Zach's house for a get together with my fellow trumpeters.  We reviewed some audition pieces, and just hung out.... it was nice to see everyone!  When I got home... I did a bit of cleaning in the reptile room, checked emails, ate, and now here I am...lol.  It was a decent day.
There is one thing I have to talk a bit about though.  It has been bothering me for a while, and now is really getting ridiculous!  1st is drama within the online herp community.  Mainly between younger herp keepers.  They are supposed to be the future of the hobby, now I am not the oldest breeder, but these kids are like ahh F*** you and this person is a B****, and it's like.... really????  The community as a whole needs to get along, and that can't happen with all the crap.  I'll be making a video tomorrow talking about my experience with the online community, and how people need to just bear with it and live!  Look for the vid sometime later tomorrow.
The other thing that bugs me is having people who "think"  they know what they are talking about try to tell me how to do my job.  Now when I get advice from a fellow herp keeper, I'll listen.... if it sounds reasonable or applicable for what I have or am doing, I might give it a shot.... if not then I won't.  But when someone who has very little experience tries to tell me how to care for something I have kept for almost 10 years?!?!?!  I get a little ticked.  I have said in my "about me" section, I have dealt with reptiles for a bit over 13 years.... I am not an expert, but I know what I am doing.  If you have advice.... I'll listen, if you want to be like "don't do this because........" and you really don't know how long I have done this..... DON'T SAY ANYTHING!  I don't let stuff like this bother me, but it really irks me when it happens, and it doesn't happen a lot, which is why when it does happen from that one radom "know it all" I get ticked off a bit.
Anyway, tomorrow, Jon and I, and some others (maybe) are building baby racks, the last 2 racks for the herp room.  After that, I'll be taking vids.... so stay tuned on www.youtube.com/janddreptiles for new vids!  :)    Thanks for reading my vent!
